Possession of the puck switches teams over 100 time per game. Regardless of the position you play, you are constantly switching between offense and defense, both mentally and physically.
You may be defensively covering your check one minute, and a tip of the puck, or a crazy bounce later, your team suddenly has the puck. Your brain instantly switches to offensive mode. Now your job is to get open, and be ready for a pass.
Stick on the Ice
A pass can come at you any time, even when you don't expect it. With your stick on the ice, you've got a far better chance of receiving an unexpected pass, than if your stick is hovering around your waist.
The blade of your stick on the ice also gives your teammate a target. Show your teammates exactly where you want the puck.
Hockey is a fast game. When the pressure is on, your teammate may only have a split second to decide what to do with the puck. With you and your stick ready for a pass, you're giving him at least one favorable play option.
Keep Your Eye on the Puck.
While breaking out of our own end, you’ll often see beginning players skate into the neutral zone (between the two blue lines) with their head down. They're skating for open ice, so they've got the right idea, but they're not watching the play. When you have the puck and look up to see who's open, and all you see is the back of their head, you KNOW they're not ready for a pass. Oblivious to the play, they're essentially a roaming pylon.
Always be ready for a pass.
The adult season is about half way through and we hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break. Now that we are back for the 2nd half of the season, this is the time to make sure that if you are not a fully paid player, you are getting your minimum 12 games played to be playoff eligible.
As always, it is important to remember that the adult league is for fun and we all have to get up in the morning to go to work. Let’s make sure that when we are on the ice, we are respectful to our opponents and not let our competitiveness get the best of us. We also must remember that the referee’s (as the players) are not NHL level and will make mistakes. We are all learning and need to make sure that we respect the officials as well.
We have openings in every division so if you are interested in playing please contact the Hockey Director at (949) 683-8677 or email Matt Dunaev at mdunaev@icetown.com for more information on joining our Adult hockey league.
The adult hockey clinic is perfect for adults looking to better their skills and pick their game up.

The current In House season is coming to a close on Saturday, September 22nd with the skills competition being held on the 21st. The new season is set to start on Friday, September 28th instead of the originally planned date of October 5th. We are going to have a break on the weekend of the 5th due to our annual Fall Classic tournament.
We are anticipating a fantastic end to this season and a spectacular Fall season.
We would also like to introduce our new in house hockey coordinator, Kyle Cook. Kyle has a wealth of knowledge and experience playing and coaching hockey and we are excited to have him on board. Feel free to contact Kyle at kcook@icetown.com.
The Hockey Academy is developing players as it has always and is encouraging players to continue to grow through the system. Although the coaches are watching to see which players are ready to move to in house, don’t hesitate to ask a coach if your superstar feels like they are ready to pushed to the next level.
For more information please contact Kyle Cook at kcook@icetown.com.
